Comox

Town in Comox-Strathcona Regional District, southwestern British Columbia, Canada, on east-central Vancouver Island, 177 km/110 mi northwest of Victoria; population (1991) 8,300. In a Salishan homeland, it was settled by whites in the 1860s and is a port, winter sports and retirement centre. The production of potatoes and fruit are also important.
