Compenius, Heinrich (c. 1525-1611)

German music theorist and composer, the eldest member of a family of organ builders who also worked in Denmark. His son Esaias Compenius (died 1617) built the organ at Frederiksborg Castle and was coauthor with Michael Praetorius of Orgeln Verdingnis (Organographia). Esaias's brother Heinrich Compenius the Younger (died 1631) built the organ at Magdeburg Cathedral. Heinrich's nephew Johann Heinrich Compenius (died 1642) built the organ at St Mauritius, Halle, for Samuel Scheidt.
