CompuServe

US-based public online information service and Internet service provider.

CompuServe was established in 1979 and offered an easy-to-use service. Worldwide subscribers to CompuServe rose from half a million in 1988 to about 5.2 million in 1997 CompuServe started moving some of its services to the World Wide Web in 1996 and was taken over by rival America Online in 1997.
