Electronic game played on a visual-display screen or, by means of special additional or built-in components, on the screen of a television set. The first commercially sold was a simple bat-and-ball game developed in the USA in 1972.

Nearly forty percent of all Americans plan on giving or receiving a computer or video game this holiday season according to a poll conducted by KRC Research for the Entertainment Software Association," said Senator Rick Santorum (R-NC).
In addition, a majority of Americans (56%) under the age of 45 plan to buy at least one computer or video game this year; while 37% of 45 to 54 year olds, and 26% of adults ages 55 to 64, also plan to buy at least one game this year.
