tomography

Technique of using X-rays or ultrasound waves to procure images of structures deep within the body for diagnostic purposes. In modern medical imaging there are several techniques, such as the CAT scan (computerized axial tomography).

CT is the industrial counterpart of computer-aided tomography, or CAT scanning, which uses x-rays to penetrate the body and produce a 3D image of the region of interest.
