computer-assisted reporting

Use of computers to do journalistic research. At its simplest, computer-assisted reporting involves searching an online database for basic information such as addresses and phone numbers. At their most sophisticated, computer systems allow journalists to sift through large quantities of data to find patterns of behaviour or connections that would not be visible by other means.
