Concarneau

Concarneau

Seaport in the département of Finistère in Brittany, France, 20 km/12 mi southeast of Quimper; population (1990) 20,000. It is a centre of the sardine, mackerel, and tuna fisheries, and there are boatyards. The old town, which is surrounded by ramparts, dates from the 14th century; it lies on an island near the bay of La Forét, while the newer portion, Ste-Croix, is on the opposite shore.

Throw in a bit of culture - the historic town of Quimper is just 10 miles inland from where we were staying and ancient Concarneau a little further - plus the onsite PGL children's activity station with its 10-metre tower, zip wire and climbing wall and there's something for everyone.
Lyon thrashed fifth-tier Concarneau 6-0 at the weekend to qualify for this last 32 fixture which will also act as a litmus test for both teams' championship credentials.
Concarneau itself, which has an impressive marina and fishing harbour, grew up around the Ville Close and is the third largest fishing port in France.
