Concordia

In Roman mythology, the goddess of civic harmony. She is represented as a matron, holding in her left hand the cornucopia or sceptre, and in her right an olive branch or patera.

Concordia

City and river port of Entre Ríos province, Argentina, situated on the right bank of the River Uruguay opposite Salto in Uruguay; population (2001) 138,100. The chief industries are meat packing and processing, along with other by-products of the livestock industry. Major exports are meat, hides, maize, flax, and fruit.

There are a number of fine public buildings in Concordia; the famous Rivadavia Park lies on the outskirts of the city.

A dam and hydroelectric power station, built jointly by Argentina and Uruguay, is situated at Salto Grande, 32 km/20 mi upstream from Concordia. Concordia marks the limit of navigation for vessels up the Uruguay River; upstream from here are rapids and waterfalls.

Concordia

City in north-central Kansas, USA, on the Republican River, 80 km/50 mi north of Salina; seat of Cloud County; population (1990) 6,200. Founded in 1870, it is a processing and shipping centre for wheat, cattle, dairy products, and poultry.
