condom

Barrier contraceptive, made of rubber, which fits over an erect penis and holds in the sperm produced by ejaculation. It is an effective means of preventing pregnancy if used carefully, preferably with a spermicide. In 1996 the European Union agreed a standard for condoms, which is 17 cm/6.7 in long; although the width can be variable, a regular width was agreed as 5.2 cm/2 in.
