Cone, Moses H (Herman) (1857–1908)

US merchant and manufacturer. In 1891 he formed the Cone Export & Commission Company in New York City, a marketer of Southern cloth mill-goods. Moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, in 1891, Moses built a denim mill in 1895.

He was born in Jonesboro, Tennesse. His father Herman Cone's ran a wholesale grocery business in Baltimore, but when Moses' company expanded, Herman dissolved his grocery and joined his son. In 1901 Moses bought a 3,750-acre estate at Blowing Rock, North Carolina, and began raising apple trees.
