Congleton

Market town in west Cheshire, England; population (2001) 25,400. It is situated on the River Dane, 13 km/8 mi southwest of Macclesfield. Congleton has a wide range of minor textile and engineering industries. In the 19th century it was a silk- and cotton-weaving town; it has since become a residential area for the Potteries.
