Conneaut

City in Ashtabula County, extreme northeastern Ohio, USA, 105 km/65 mi northeast of Cleveland and 3 km/2 mi west of the Pennsylvania border; population (1990) 13,200. Founded c.1799, it is a major port on Lake Erie, shipping large quantities of iron ore, coal, steel, and limestone from extensive automated docks. Diversified industries include railroad repair shops, tanneries, and the manufacture of chemicals, plastics, and tin cans.
