Connecticut Lakes

Four lakes in the far north of New Hampshire. Located in a densely forested area within Pittsburg township, Coos County, they are named First Connecticut Lake, Second Lake, Third Lake, and Fourth Lake. The source and headwaters of the Connecticut River are here.

First Connecticut Lake (length 6 km/4 mi long) and Second Lake (length 5 km/3 mi) were made larger by power dams at their outlets. Third Lake (1.6 km/1 mi long) is situated on the Québec border at an elevation of 668 m/2,191 ft. Fourth Lake lies just northwest of Third, at an elevation of 793 m/2,600 ft; from here, its ultimate source, the Connecticut River flows through Third, Second, and First lakes and then continues southwest through Lake Francis to form the border between Vermont and New Hampshire.
