Connellsville

Town in Fayette County, southwest Pennsylvania; population (1994 est) 9,200. It is situated on the Youghiogheny River, 16 km/10 mi northeast of Uniontown. At one time it was a boatbuilding centre and a major source of the coke required by the steel-manufacturing industry of Pittsburgh. It remains an industrial centre with manufactures that include metal castings and plastics.
