Connor, William Neil

    0.07 sec.

Connor, William Neil (1909–1967)

English journalist. He joined the Daily Mirror in 1935 and became known as a radical journalist under the pseudonym ‘Cassandra’.

The Mirror's criticism of the British war effort in 1941 angered Winston Churchill who castigated ‘Cassandra’ severely. Connor later served in the artillery but was moved to the staff of the British army newspapers. He rejoined the Mirror in 1946 and his style became richer and mellower. He was knighted in 1966 and was chosen as columnist of the decade in 1967.
