Considérant, Victor Prosper

Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.02 sec.

Considérant, Victor Prosper (1808–1893)

French socialist. He was a follower of the socialist Charles Fourier and continued to promote his ideas after his death in 1837. ‘Fourierism’ was based on voluntary cooperation and was not revolutionary in character.

Considérant edited the Phalange and Phalanstère journals, setting forth Fourier's views, and established two socialist colonies, in France in 1832 and in Texas, USA, in 1854, both of which failed.

Among his works are La Destinée sociale 1834–38, Débâcle de la politique 1836, and Principes du socialisme 1847.
