After studying dialectics and music in Paris, he returned to Tours, and then entered the Benedictine monastery of Beaume, near Besançon. He became abbot of the monastery of Cluny, near Macon (927–42), but returned to Tours to die. He composed hymns and antiphons and wrote treatises on music.
