Constitución

Port and capital of Constitución department in the Maule region of central Chile; population (1992) 40,400. The city is situated at the mouth of the River Maule, 184 km/114 mi north of Concepción. It is a seaside resort and railway terminus. The chief exports from this region are grain and timber.

There are two nature reserves south of Constitución in the vicinity of the Chanco Los Ruiles and Federico Albert.
