Contes d'Hoffmann, Les

Opera by Jacques Offenbach (libretto by J Barbier and Michel Carré, based on a play of their own and on stories by E T A Hoffmann), first produced at the Opéra-Comique, Paris, France, on 10 February 1881, after Offenbach's death. He did not finish it; the scoring is partly by Ernest Guiraud. In the story, Hoffmann tells of doomed love for Olympia, Antonia, and Giulietta.
