Conti, Tom

Conti, Tom (1942– )

Scottish stage and film actor. Specializing in character roles, he has given lively and intense performances in both dramas, for example the World War II film Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence (1982) and comedies, for example the film adaptation Shirley Valentine (1989).

Other films include Reuben, Reuben (1983), Beyond Therapy (1987), Something to Believe In (1997), and Out of Control (1998). On stage he has appeared in Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell (1990); he both acted in and directed Present Laughter (1993), and Chapter 2 (1996).

He was born in Paisley and attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, where he trained as a classical pianist.
