CP/M

One of the earliest operating systems for microcomputers. It was written by Gary Kildall, who founded Digital Research. In the 1970s it became a standard for microcomputers based on the Intel 8080 and Zilog Z80 8-bit microprocessors. In the 1980s it was superseded by Microsoft's MS-DOS, written for Intel's 16-bit 8086/88 microprocessors.
