Converse, Edmund Cogswell

Converse, Edmund Cogswell (1849–1921)

US inventor and philanthropist. He invented a lock-joint for tubing making millions of dollars for his father's National Tube Works in Pennsylvania. He was active in the 1899 merger with the National Tube Company.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He was president and director of many corporations (1903–14). He gave generously of his $30 million estate to both institutions and individuals.
