Conyngham, Barry (1944– )

Australian composer. He studied with Peter Sculthorpe and Toru Takemitsu and taught at the University of Melbourne from 1975, and was a visiting scholar at Minnesota and Pennsylvania State universities, USA. His music reflects oriental and modern French influences.

operas Ned (1975–78), The Apology of Bony Anderson (1978), Fly (1984), and the puppet opera Bennelong (1988); Crisis: Thoughts in a City (1968), Five Windows (1969).

Orchestral

concerto for orchestra (1981), Vast I–IV for orchestra (1987); concertos.

Other

vocal and chamber music (string quartet, 1979).
