Cooke, Deryck (1919–1976)

English musicologist. His best-known works include the book The Language of Music (1959) and his performing version of Mahler's unfinished tenth symphony, heard in London, England, on 13 August 1964 (revised 1972).

He studied privately and at Cambridge University. From 1947 to 1959 he worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation, devoting much time to writing and broadcasting.
