Coos County

County in extreme northern New Hampshire, USA; area 4,672 sq km/1,804 sq mi; population (1990) 34,800. A recreation area bordering Vermont, Québec, and Maine, New Hampshire's largest county includes part of White Mountain National Forest and the Presidential Range. It is drained by the Androscoggin, Connecticut, and Upper Ammonoosuc rivers. Lancaster is the county seat. The Androscoggin provides water power. The Connecticut Lakes region has resorts, attracting hunters and anglers. Berlin manufactures pulp, paper, and wood products. The county also produces dairy products, poultry, and potatoes.
