Cope, John (died 1760)

English general. Commander-in-chief of the forces in Scotland during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745. He was humiliatingly defeated at Prestonpans, southeast Scotland, on 21 September 1745 by Prince Charles Edward Stuart, the Young Pretender.
