copper(II) carbonate

Green solid that readily decomposes to form black copper(II) oxide on heating:

CuCO3 → CuO + CO2

It dissolves in dilute acids to give blue solutions with effervescence caused by the release of carbon dioxide.

CuCO3 + H2SO4 → CuSO4 + CO2 + H2O
