Copperas Cove

City in Coryell County, central Texas, USA, 85 km/53 mi southwest of Waco; population (1990) 24,100. Just southwest of Fort Hood, in a farming area, it is now largely a service town for the base.

A 19th-century stop on the way to the Chisholm Trail, it took its name from its springs, whose water was said to have a coppery taste.
