Mbandaka

Port and city on the Zaire River in the north of the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire), 600 km/373 mi northeast of Kinshasa; population (1994) 169,800. It is an industrial and commercial centre, and distribution point for petroleum products. The city is the administrative capital of Equateur region.
