It was the capital of Cyprus in Roman times and the legendary birthplace of the goddess Aphrodite, who rose out of the sea. Archaeological remains include the 2,300-year-old underground ‘Tombs of the Kings’, a Roman villa, and a 7th-century Byzantine castle. |
