Corbridge

Residential village in Northumberland, England, 27 km/17 mi west of Newcastle; population (2001) 3,000. It is situated on the River Tyne, which is crossed here by a bridge built in 1674. The Roman site of Corstopitum, 1 km/0.6 mi to the west, served as an important base for military operations under Antoninus Pius, and grew into a town of considerable size, part of which can still be seen.

Corbridge has an Anglo-Saxon church, parts of which date from the 7th century. Aydon Castle, a 13th-century fortified manor house, lies 2.5 km/1.5 mi to the northeast.
