Corel

Canadian software company founded in 1985 by British citizen Michael Cowpland. Its drawing program CorelDRAW led the market from its first release in 1989. Corel bought the desktop publishing package Ventura Publisher in 1995 and then the word processor WordPerfect in 1996. In 2001, Corel purchased US graphics software company Micrografx, and in 2002, Canadian company SoftQuad Software, a supplier of Web development tools.
