Corelli, Franco

Corelli, Franco (1921– )

Italian tenor. He made his debut in Spoleto, in 1951, as Don José, and has sung at La Scala, Milan, since 1954. In 1957 he made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, as Cavaradossi, and in 1961 appeared at the New York Metropolitan Opera House as Manrico. He has sung at the Paris Opéra and the Vienna Staatsoper since 1970. He is much admired as Calaf, Ernani, Radames, and Raoul in Les Huguenots.
