Corena, Fernando (1916–1984)

Swiss bass. He made his debut at Trieste, in 1947, as Varlaam, after minor pre-war roles in Geneva. His New York Metropolitan Opera House debut was in 1954, as Leporello, and he performed in Edinburgh in 1955 and 1963 as Falstaff and Don Pasquale. In 1960 he sang Rossini's Bartolo at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. His other roles included Escamillo, Osmin, Dulcamara, and Don Alfonso.
