Modified corn starch consumption grew by 14% during 2004 from 2003, while native corn starch consumption dropped 10. corn starch and butter (instead of also-damaging hydrogenated oils). Other factors behind slower growth for silica in tire applications include minimal penetration into truck tires; competition from other types of 'eco-friendly' tires (such Goodyear's BioTred tire, which uses a corn starch filler); and a significant cost disadvantage compared to carbon black. |
