Cornelisz, Cornelis

    0.01 sec.

Cornelisz, Cornelis (1562–1638)

Dutch historical and portrait painter. He was one of the leading Dutch Mannerists of his time, creating large historical pictures filled with contorted, life-size nudes. His Banquet of the Archers Guild (1583, Haarlem) illustrates the type of group portraiture that became a distinctive Dutch achievement.

A pupil in Haarlem of Pieter Aertzen, he also studied in Rouen, France, and Antwerp.
