Coronado

City in San Diego County, southwestern California, USA, 3 km/2 mi southwest of downtown San Diego; population (1990) 26,500. The North Island US Naval Air Station and US Naval Amphibious Base are major employers. The city's climate and its waterfront (the Silver Strand beach) also make it popular with tourists.

On a peninsula between San Diego Bay (to the east) and the Pacific Ocean, it is connected to San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge.

Hotel Del Coronado (1888) is a noted landmark.
