Corregidor

Island fortress off the Bataan Peninsula at the mouth of Manila Bay, Luzon, the Philippines. On 6 May 1942, Japanese forces captured Corregidor and its 10,000 US and Filipino defenders, completing their conquest of the Philippines. US forces recaptured Corregidor in a combined air and sea operation 6 February 1945.

The US Army fortified the island 1905–12 to form the major coastal defence protecting the entrance to the Bay, with 35 guns of calibers ranging from 3 in to 12 in distributed among 14 batteries.
