Corregidor, Der

Opera by Hugo Wolf (libretto by R Mayreder, based on P A de Alarcón's story El sombrero de tres picos/The Three-cornered Hat), first produced in Mannheim, Germany, on 7 June 1896. In the story, Frasquita tries to avoid Don Eugenio's amorous advances while her husband Tio Lukas is detained by the Don's men. Incorrectly believing that Frasquita has been unfaithful, Lukas sets out to seduce the Don's wife, Donna Mercedes. After mistaken identities are resolved, Frasquita and Lukas are reunited.
