Corsicana| City in east-central Texas, USA, 80 km/50 mi southeast of Dallas; seat of Navarro County; population (1990) 22,900. The surrounding Blacklands area produces wheat, grain, sorghums, cotton, and peanuts, and Corsicana, established in 1849, has processing plants for these products. The city also manufactures oilfield equipment and various other products, including fruitcake. |
| Oil was discovered here accidentally in 1894 and caused a boom. A refinery was built in 1897; natural gas was also exploited. |
