Corvallis| City in western Oregon, USA, on the Willamette River, 45 km/28 mi south-southwest of Salem; seat of Benton County; population (1990) 44,800. It is a lumber and agricultural processing centre. |

Corvallis is the seat of Oregon State University (1868), the state's oldest public institution of higher learning.
