filbert

Cultivated species of hazel Corylus maxima in the hazel Corylus genus in the family Betulaceae. The edible fruits are oval, elongated nuts with a mild, oily taste. The nuts are borne on a large shrub resembling the hazel. Filbert nuts differ from hazels in having an outer husk rather longer than the nut; both types are sometimes called cobnuts.
