Coshocton

City in east-central Ohio, USA, 60 km/37 mi northeast of Newark, at the confluence of the Walhonding and Tuscarawas rivers where they form the Muskingum River; seat of Coshocton County; population (1990) 12,200. It is a centre for the manufacture of cast iron pipe, stainless steel, laminated plastics, corrugated paper, and milk products. Specialized advertising is also important.

In 1764 an expedition was led here to rescue 363 white captives from Indians. The Indian village that stood on the site was destroyed in 1781, and in 1802 Coshocton was founded.

A soil and water experimental station and a restored 19th-century Ohio-Erie Canal town are nearby.
