cost per mille

Standard method of charging for banner advertising on the Internet. CPM stands for cost per mille, or cost per thousand. In the CPM model the advertiser pays an amount, perhaps $50, for 1,000 page impressions of the banner advertisement. This works out as 5 cents per view. The CPM model favours the owner of the Web site hosting the advertisement because they receive revenue from the advertiser regardless of the success of the campaign.
