Cotabato del Sur

    0.03 sec.

Cotabato del Sur

Province of southern Mindanao Island in the Philippines; area 7,356 sq km/ 2,840 sq mi; population (1995) 948,000. The capital is Koronadal. The main products are rice, corn, hemp, coconuts, and pineapples; there is also cattle ranching. Lake Sebu is a centre for tourism.

Unlike most Mindanao provinces, Cotabato del Sur's settlements are not coastal, but are in the central lowland along road and river routes. The province is home to the B'laan and Maguindanao peoples.

Resettlement projects for landless people in the 1940s led to the formation of General Santos City on the coast.
