CotonouChief port and largest city of Benin, on the Bight of Benin; population (2002) 665,100. Palm products and timber are exported, there is a brewing industry, and textiles are manufactured. Although not the official capital, it is the seat of the president, and the main centre of commerce and politics.

Five experimental huts belonging to the Centre de Recherche Entomologique de Cotonou (CREC) are situated in the village. Kenya Airways will launch two weekly flights from Nairobi to Cotonou via Brazzaville from Oct. It is important to note, however, that although a few traveled to nearby villages for work, several photographers were based in the capital, Porto-Novo, or in other cities such as Cotonou or Abomey. |
