Cotrubas, Ileana (1939– )

Romanian soprano. She made her debut as Debussy's Yniold in Bucharest, in 1964, and sang in Frankfurt, Brussels, and Salzburg before appearing at Glyndebourne in 1969 as Mélisande. She sang Callisto in the first modern performance of Cavalli's opera in 1970, and made her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1971, as Tatyana; her other London roles included Susanna, Violetta, Gilda, Antonia, and Micaela. Her US debut was in Chicago, as Mimi, in 1973, and she performed at the New York Metropolitan Opera House from 1977. She sang Desdemona at Barcelona in 1988 and retired in 1989.
