Courrèges, André (1923– )French fashion designer. He is credited with inventing the miniskirt in 1964. His ‘space-age’ designs – square-shaped short skirts and trousers – were copied worldwide in the 1960s. Courrèges worked for Cristóbal Balenciaga 1950–61, and founded his own label 1961. From 1966 he produced both couture and ready-to-wear lines of well-tailored designs, often in pastel shades. How to thank TFD for its existence?
