Cox, Jean (1922– )

US tenor. He sang Lensky in Boston in 1951, then moved to Europe, making his Bayreuth debut in 1956, and from 1967 performing as Lohengrin, Parsifal, and Siegfried. He sang Siegfried at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, in 1975 and returned in 1985 for Bacchus. He appeared at Chicago from 1964, and made his New York Metropolitan Opera House debut in 1976, as Walther. His other roles included Janáček's Števa and Strauss's Apollo.
