Cox, Kenyon

Cox, Kenyon (1856–1919)

US painter and art critic. He painted Augustus St Gaudens, the famous sculptor, in 1908. His art criticism, such as Painters and Sculptors (1907), was widely read.

He was born in Warren, Ohio. An academic painter, he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1876), and with Gérôme in Paris (1878–82), before returning to New York City.
